[Editorial] The unmet needs of people living with severe asthma
More than 260 million people worldwide live with asthma, and more than 400 000 die of the disease each year. 5–10% of people with asthma live with severe asthma, but it has an outsized effect—frequent disease exacerbations, poor lung function, and a widespread dependence on corticosteroids. Despite serious symptoms, asthma is often underdiagnosed and mismanaged, which—in the worst-case scenarios—can be fatal.
